There are 4 main things we need to do in preparation for the Ecole Chocolat Hangout.
- You need to install the Hangouts plugin
- You need to create a Google account if you don’t already have one
- From Google+ ‘follow’ both Robert Ouimet and Ecole Chocolat
- You need to participate in a ‘test’ session ahead of the event to ensure everything will work properly
1: Install the Hangout plugin
This allows your web browser to interact with your computer camera and connect with Google+
Just follow this link and click download plugin to install it: https://www.google.com/tools/dlpage/hangoutplugin
2: Create a Google account
(if you already have a Google account, you can go to step 3)
We use a part of Google called Google+ for the Hangouts. In order to use Google+, you have to have a Google account. If you don’t have a Google account, you can set one up here: https://accounts.google.com/SignUp?hl=en
Please let us know what email address you are using for Google as this makes it easier to connect to the right person.
3: From Google+ ‘follow’ Robert Ouimet
Google+ uses the term ‘circle’ to indicate a group of people you are following. You can create any number of circles and call them whatever you’d like. To add someone to a circle, you ‘follow’ them in Google+. You’ll need to follow producer Robert Ouimet so that you can take part in the Hangout.
Sign in to Google. If you are not already signed in to your Google account, go to Google.com and click the SIGN IN button in the right corner of the Google search page.
If you are already signed in to Google, click the Google App icon – it is nine dotes in a square shape in the top right of the screen.
When you click on the icon it will expand to show various Google apps. Click on the Google+ icon (the apps may be in a different order than shown below)
Clicking the G+ icon opens Google+
The Google+ page should look something the image below.
Type firstname.lastname@example.org into the search box at the top of the Google+ page.
Click my name and icon when it comes up:
Clicking my name will bring you to my profile page.
Now click on the FOLLOW button:
NOTE: If you didn’t already have a Google+ profile, after clicking FOLLOW, you’ll be prompted to fill out your Google+ profile information:
In either case, once you’ve clicked FOLLOW, Google+ will notify you that you’ve added email@example.com to your circles.
Now, please also add Ecole Chocolat.
Go to the Search box at the top of the page and enter Ecole Chocolat.
Select Ecole Chocolat from the list and click FOLLOW on the Ecole Chocolat profile page.
4: You need to participate in a ‘test’ session
In preparation for the actual Chocolate Masters Hangout, we’ll arrange for a short ‘test drive’ where you and Robert will connect, about a week prior to the event. This allows us to check that everything is working ok.
Like Skype, the Hangouts use your computer’s camera and microphone, so please find somewhere quiet and well lit for the Hangout.
For the test session, it’s best if you can use your computer at the location where you will be for the actual Hangout. That way we can test the connection and ensure things will work well during the live event.
5 minutes BEFORE the scheduled meeting time (for both the test drive and for the live event) please log-on to your Google account.
Robert will send you an email with the link to join the call.
When your browser launches, You may be prompted to allow the video plug-ins. Please select ALLOW.
You will also need to ‘agree’ to join the Hangout ON Air when prompted.
